Rockfall Foundation Supports Sustainable Gardening Camp at Valley Shore YMCA
The Rockfall Foundation awarded a grant to Valley Shore YMCA, supporting the ‘Farm to Table’ gardening camp. This grant provided scholarships to children in the Lower Connecticut River Valley aged 6-14 and supplied essential garden materials for their garden-based educational activities.
During a recent visit to the” Y”, Rockfall staff observed the program’s effectiveness as a learning experience for the camp participants. The “Farm to Table” camp engages children in sustainable agriculture practices and environmental stewardship as the campers participate in the growing process from planting seeds to harvesting the fully grown produce.

The program also emphasizes how the community benefits from the camper’s efforts, by providing fresh vegetables to the Shoreline Soup Kitchen and Pantries which benefits families in need.
At the conclusion of the visit, the campers served snacks they made from the garden’s produce to the entire YMCA summer camp, demonstrating their understanding of the lessons learned during the camp program.
