About the Speaker

Catherine “Cat” Santos Young is the founder and principal architect of TAMA Architecture PC, a practice based in Essex,  specializing in high-performance residential design in Connecticut, Rhode Island, and beyond.  As a licensed architect and Certified Passive House Consultant she brings a fresh perspective on the practice of architecture with her passion for psychology and behavioral science.

About the Talk

Birchfell Passive Houseis a cutting-edge Phius certified House in Sharon, Connecticut, featuring a unique build with hybrid construction practices, low-carbon materials like compressed straw insulation, and high-performance mechanical systems to create a home that will endure and adapt for generations.  As we review this case study, we will discuss the variety of challenges we face in building sustainably and how we can all leverage small steps towards the monumental task of normalizing sustainability.

EVENT UPDATE: Our presentation will begin promptly at 5:30 PM and wrap up a bit earlier than usual, at 6:15 PM. Guest are welcome to arrive earlier, around 5:00 PM if you’d like time to order food, settle in, and connect with others beforehand. Of course, you’re welcome to stay and mingle after the talk!
