SUMMARY:Mica Ledges Family Hike
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1556557334339{margin-bottom: 0px !important;}”]\n\n\nJoin us for a fun all-ages exploratory hike on a wooded trail to a small cave and a beautiful pond. We will look at the latest beaver activity and wind our way back through a lovely forest with interesting moss-covered boulders to climb on. We will spend time exploring whatever piques our interest and play a game or two. All ages are welcome\, as long as they can walk the full distance (or you have a backpack to carry them.) We will still hike in light rain\, but this event will be cancelled if conditions are deemed to be unsafe. Led by Lisa Liesener of Everyone Outside and in conjunction with Middlesex Land Trust. Meeting point is the gravel parking lot at the south end of Cream Pot Rd.\, Durham. See Google map for directions.\n\n\n\nThis outing is part of Connecticut Trails Day — the huge statewide two-day weekend event with over 220 hikes\, nature walks\, paddles\, and more all across CT\, June 1-2.  Hikes range from long to short\, easy to hard. The event is part of National Trails Day\, and is coordinated by our partner:  the CT Forest and Park Association.  Outings in 118+ other CT towns statewide are also part of that event at: \nhttps://www.ctwoodlands.org/ct-trails-weekend/events-2019 \n\n\n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:River Highlands State Park Hike & Ice Cream Stop
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1559241087326{margin-bottom: 0px !important;}”]\n\n\nCome explore the newest of CT’s State Parks. Our 3.3 mile hike will take in fine\, pristine vistas of the Connecticut River. We will discover a tiny\, hidden beach\, along with wooded highlands along the river\, and a small stream and its canyon. Mostly moderate terrain with some limited steep parts. We’ll hike at a very gentle pace\, allowing time to take in the views as we traverse many newly-built trails all around this attractive\, little-known\, and mostly undeveloped State Park. Bring boots\, water. Families with kids 8+ experienced in hiking are welcome. Due to recent rains\, please bring bug repellent. No dogs\, please.\n\n  \nVery limited parking so car-pooling is encouraged. If you arrive right at 1 pm and the lot is full\, you may need to be shuttled or walk in from adjoining parking elsewhere. A carpool will meet at 12:30 at the deKoven House\, 27 Washington St. Middletown\, departing at 12:40 for the trailhead.\nTrailhead is at the small parking lot on E. side of 115 Field Rd\, Cromwell\, just south of the RR track crossing. See Google map for directions.\n  \n\n\n\n\n\nHeavy\, steady\, rain cancels. Optional ice cream stop after the hike.\n  \n\n\n\n\n\nLed by Kenneth Selling of Sierra Club\, with Amanda Kenyon from The Rockfall Foundation.  This outing is part of Connecticut Trails Day — the huge statewide two-day weekend event with over 220 hikes\, nature walks\, paddles\, and more all across CT\, June 1-2.  Hikes range from long to short\, easy to hard.
