DESCRIPTION:Do you know an individual or organization that has made a significant contribution the local environment through preservation\, conservation\, education\, or restoration? Nominate them for a Rockfall Foundation Environmental Award! \nThrough this program the Rockfall Foundation recognizes individuals and groups that contribute to the quality of life in the Lower Connecticut River Valley through environmental preservation\, conservation\, restoration or education. The Awards are presented at the Foundation’s Annual Meeting in November. Nomination Forms must be submitted by September 15\, 2017. \nThe Distinguished Service Award is given\, as appropriate\, to an organization or individual for outstanding on-going or long-term accomplishments in the area of environmental preservation\, conservation\, restoration or education.\nThe Certificate of Appreciation is given\, as appropriate\, to one or more organizations or individuals to recognize significant programs or projects in the area of environmental preservation\, conservation\, restoration or education. \nDefinitions\n• Preservation is work to protect ecosystems\, species\, and other irreplaceable elements of the world’s natural heritage.\n• Conservation is work to minimize our use of finite natural resources and our negative impacts on ecosystems and communities.\n• Restoration is work to re-establish the healthy functions of an ecosystem or parts of ecosystems.\n• Education is work to foster a stronger awareness and understanding of environmental and sustainability issues. \nEligible adult individuals (18 years and older) can be volunteers or professionals\, including teachers; organizations include municipalities\, nonprofits\, ad-hoc groups\, schools\, libraries\, camps\, etc. The activity/programs should have been initiated in the past 5 years and be currently ongoing or completed by September 2017. At 6:30 pm\, Dic Wheeler will lead a discussion of Hamlet the Activist in 2017: Making Choices and Taking Action in a Quest for Public Justice\, drawing parallels to modern-day environmentalists. Dic is the Executive Director of ARTFARM and is directing Hamlet for the 12th season of Shakespeare in the Grove on the campus of Middlesex Community College. MYG attendees can take advantage of $10 off vouchers for the 8 pm Hamlet performance.
