The series offers three to four screenings each academic year\, alternating between Wesleyan University and Russell Library. All events are free and open to the public. \nThe third screening of the 2025–26 season is Last Paddle on Monday\, March 30th at 7:00PM at the Wesleyan Goldsmith Family Cinema at 301 Washington Terrace\, Middletown CT. \nThis inspirational and visually stunning film is about the amazing lifetime journey of renowned river advocate Mark Angelo who has paddled more than 1000 rivers in well over 100 countries. This film chronicles his life-long commitment to river conservation and restoration around the globe. Then\, Julianna McVeigh from the Doherty Climate and Resilience Institute will discuss the Connecticut Coalition for Climate Action’s efforts on climate action through work policy\, grassroots mobilization\, and marketing. \nAdmission is free. Please join us! \nAbout the speakers:\nBill Lucey grew up fishing in local CT waters before earning a Fisheries Biology B.S at the University of Vermont\, and a graduate certificate in Fisheries Management from Oregon State University. He served in Guatemala as a Peace Corps fisheries extensionist before moving to Alaska for 20 years where he worked as a federal fish & wildlife biologist\, commercial fisherman\, NOAA marine mammal stranding responder and a municipal biologist and coastal program coordinator. In 2014\, he became the director of the Kauai Invasive Species Committee with the University of Hawaii. Research over this time focused on beluga whales\, harbor seals\, pacific salmon\, forestry and the risks of toxoplasmosis in the Kauai’s watersheds.  Since 2017\, he has patrolled the rivers and estuary of Long Island Sound finding pollution and advocating at the CT and US Capitals for clean water and fisheries legislation. \nJulianna McVeigh\, a Doherty Climate and Resilience Institute Campaigns Manager\, joined Save the Sound in September 2024 and is working to connect climate data to action through policy and storytelling\, as an integral part of the Doherty Institute for Climate & Resilience. We are offering free parking for Rockfall members. You are welcome to invite anyone to join you that fits in your car. Parking reservations are on first to respond basis and is limited to 25 cars. Please make your reservation as soon as possible by registering here. We will open the parking lot at around 4:00 pm and close it at 7:30 pm. The deKoven House bathroom facilities will also be available for use. \nThe fireworks barge location is directly across from the deKoven House\, so it is a prime location. From the deKoven House\, you will have easy access to deKoven Drive and Harbor Park\, where there will be food trucks and fun activities. Fireworks viewing can be from the riverside of the deKoven House\, where you can put your lawn chair\, or at Harbor Park and the surrounding area. We will meet at the parking lot at the entrance of the park (the parking lot is on the left as soon as you enter the park and cross the railroad tracks) at 8:30 AM. \nFrom there\, we will walk south along the edge of the wooded wetland on the west side of the open meadow field. We will be looking for Spring migrants and breeding resident birds among the park’s varied habitats\, which include a forested swamp\, a scrub/shrub swamp\, a pond\, the CT River and its associated freshwater tidal emergent wetlands\, and open meadows.
